When you live in New York City, you understand once springtime rolls around the hot summer heat is not far behind. New York City summers are always brutal because, in the concrete jungle, where the sun beats down, you’re surrounded by a million people walking right on top of one another in such close quarters.
Luckily, New York City offers some of the most beautiful parks and green covered spaces where you can spread out and enjoy the warm weather. Not to mention, there are tons of great things to do during the warmer months, and each spot serves up some significant events not to miss. Let’s take a quick look at some of the fun things to do in New York City parks during the warmer months.
New York Philharmonic
During the summer months, New Yorkers flock to Central Park for free concerts where they can relax and enjoy some beautiful music with friends and family, and most often, have a delicious picnic. The New York Philharmonic has been moving away from Lincoln Center during the summertime to allow people to see them perform for free. These summer concerts have become a New York City staple, and something natives look forward to all year.
Brooklyn Bridge Park
The Brooklyn Bridge Park serves as a spot where many New Yorkers go for picnics, to play sports, and even have fun dance parties. One of the fun things this park offers during the summer months is free screenings of movies. During July and August, “Movies With a View” provides free movies to as many people that can pile on the lawn. It’s best to make your way there early so you can get a great spot to watch some fantastic movie choices.
Prospect Park
Located in Brooklyn, Prospect Park is one of the most beautiful, heavily wooded parks in New York City. One of the best ways to enjoy the park is by biking on the cycle loop during weekends which stretches to 3.35 miles. The loop runs around the outer edges of the park where you will see the beautiful lake. Even if you don’t own a bike, there are other options such as renting from Citibike, so you don’t miss out on Prospect Park’s sites.
There are so many different places to visit during the summer months when you are living in New York City. Each borough offers a different park to enjoy when you’re tired of the stuffy concrete madness of summer in New York. It is great to get out and explore the offerings this city has.
